The biggest challenge I faced in my investing journey was learning how to measure risk and to avoid permanent loss of capital. Growing up in the family business, Gerry's Group, a large aviation conglomerate, I learned the wonders of compounding, watching the family business reinvest capital year after year. I applied similar principles when investing in the start up world and learned that too many businesses burn through capital too fast, and it is my biggest priority to make sure that does not happen to our partners.
